Poultry Panorama 5th Edition

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam — February 23, 2024:
The 5th Edition of Poultry Panorama, the prestigious international technical symposium organized by Varsha Group, convened over 250 poultry professionals and scientists from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Vietnam to discuss the future of sustainable poultry farming.

The event was inaugurated through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Chin (International Animal Health Consultant, Singapore), Mr. H. K. Nanjaiah (Founder & CEO, Varsha Group), Dr. D. Chandrasekaran (Renowned Nutritionist), Dr. K. S. Prajapati (Renowned Pathologist), and Mr. Girish Nanjaiah (Joint Managing Director, Varsha Group).


Opening Session

Dr. Somashekar, Product Manager at Varsha Group, welcomed the delegates and showcased a video presentation narrating the journey and objectives of Poultry Panorama, which since 2007 has served as a platform for technology exchange, innovation, and best practice dissemination within the global poultry industry. He emphasized the industry’s critical role in ensuring global nutritional security.


Keynote Address — Sustainable Poultry for a Better World

Dr. Chin, the Chief Guest, delivered the inaugural keynote on “Recent Trends and Practices in Poultry Production and Disease Management in Asia.”
He reflected on the historical reliance on antibiotics as growth promoters, highlighting antimicrobial resistance as a critical emerging threat to public health and food safety.

He advocated for:

  • Strict biosecurity and advanced management systems

  • Balanced nutrition with dynamic additives like probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes, acidifiers, and phytochemicals

  • Alternative strategies to reduce antibiotic dependence without compromising bird performance

Dr. Chin received a Poultry Panorama 5th Edition memento in recognition of his contribution.

1️⃣ Optimal Feed Pelleting & Nutrient Utilization

Speaker: Dr. Reza Abdollahi, Associate Professor of Poultry Nutrition, Massey University, New Zealand

  • Discussed “The Quest for Optimal Pellets with Emphasis on Gastrointestinal Tract Function and Nutrient Digestibility.”

  • Highlighted advancements in feed manufacturing technology, pellet quality, particle size management, and incorporation of structural components like whole grains and insoluble fibers.

Session chaired by Dr. D. Chandrasekaran, with Dr. H. B. Nataraja as Co-chair and Dr. Sunil Kalaskar as Rapporteur.


2️⃣ Advances in Poultry Gut Health – Post-Antibiotic Era

Speaker: Prof. Rajesh Jha, University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA
Introduced by Mr. Sreegangaiah H. K.

  • Spoke on “Reflecting on Advances in Poultry Gut Health.”

  • Emphasized alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters and the nutritional and functional role of novel feed additives.

Session chaired by Dr. Ajit Ranade, with Dr. K. S. Prajapati as Co-chair and Dr. Shaitan Singh Rathore as Rapporteur.


3️⃣ Enzyme-Driven Precision Nutrition & Smart Farming

Speaker: Dr. Aaron Cowieson, DSM-Firmenich, Switzerland
Introduced by Mr. Sanjay Verma

  • Presented “Optimizing the Value of Exogenous Feed Enzymes in Non-Ruminant Animal Production.”

  • Explored phytases, carbohydrases, and proteases, and futuristic integration of AI-driven biomarkers, sensors, and near-infrared spectroscopy for precision nutrition.


4️⃣ Calcium & Phosphorus Digestibility in Modern Poultry Diets

Speaker: Dr. Reza Abdollahi (Second Session)
Invited by Mr. Manbir Singh

  • Discussed digestible phosphorus and the need for a defined calcium-to-phosphorus ratio to optimize skeletal development and feed efficiency.


5️⃣ Disease Prevention & Vaccine Strategy in Modern Flocks

Speaker: Dr. Kannan Ganapathy, University of Liverpool, UK
Introduced by Mrs. Rekha Jagadeesh

  • Delivered “Infectious Diseases Affecting Layers and Broilers.”

  • Stressed differential diagnosis, emerging viral strain surveillance, and systematic vaccination protocols to combat respiratory and production-related disorders.
